Bandos Island Resort & Spa, Maldives:
Bandos Island Resort & Spa hosts “WEC on the Road with Cultural Heritage” - Blending Handicrafts and Tourism. This event was held in the Sand Bar at Bandos Island Resort & Spa, from 1600 hrs till 2100 hrs on 28th April 2008.

Organized and coordinated by Women Entrepreneurs Council, (an NGO belonging to Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industries), and Bandos Island Resort & spa, this event was aimed at achieving the following objectives:

1- Supporting the handicraft industry ,
• to promote the local handicrafts and provide the crafts people a possibility to earn justified and worthy income for their work
• to encourage and promote authenticity in production of local crafts

2- Support and promote links between the tourism and the handicraft industry through exposure of culture and crafts

3- Create an activity that generates profits to support WEC financially and
Raises the organizations visibility and information to the public and Builds membership base (from women participants in the activity).

Bandos Island Resort & Spa, being an active promoter of local culture and sub-cultures, supported this event to promote and support objective it was set to achieve. In addition to showing its support for such initiatives, Bandos was able to give its guests a glimpse of authentic handicrafts of the Maldives and a little insight into the history of Maldives culture and history.

“This is a remarkable success for Bandos as a host and the Women Entrepreneurs Council as the organizer” said one the staff, “we have had many tourists visiting active sales of the handicraft items have been very good, I am very proud of this success”.

With breathtaking decorations on the island and mouth watering taste bud experiences with amazing culinary arts, Bandos, as usual, never failed to thrill its valued guests during Christmas 2007 celebrations. Events leading up to the celebrations included live music, kid’s karaoke, staff and cultural shows.

Interestingly, Santa arrived on a parasail with heaps of gifts in the sack. At the jetty Santa was welcomed by the house guests including over hundred children holding candles.

Celebrations continued with a kid’s party on the following day for the children. Kiddy games such as sack racing, lime & spoon and musical chair were hosted at the party. Kid’s party was spiced up the arrival of Santa from the roof of the Kid’s Club followed by photo sessions and party.

On the 10^th December 2007, Bandos Island Resort & Spa celebrated 35 years in service.

Bandos Islands Resort and Spa hosts the ninth dive medicine course.

With 29 participants including 4 Maldivian doctors from IGMH and 25 Scandinavian doctors graduated today (3 November 2007) at a ceremony held at Bandos Island resort & Spa. Started in 1999, this course is an initiative of the management of Bandos Island Resort & Spa, to train local doctors in diving medicine.

Now run from a faculty of a University Hospital in Sweden, the course is conducted by well qualified doctors in diving medicine. One of the instructor’s of the course, Dr. Abdul Azeez, now the Deputy Minister of Health, Maldives, was also a graduate from the first course held in 1999.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held in Bandos Island Resort & Spa, Dr. Abdul Abdul Azeez highlighted that Maldives now has over 30 doctors trained in dive medicine over the last 9 years. He also highlighted that there is clear indication showing reduction of dive related incidents in the Maldives, which he said was encouragingly positive sign of dive safety awareness.

As in the previous years, drinking water for the dive medicine course participants, was sponsored by Male’ Aerated Water Company Ltd.

Bandos Island Resort & Spa is the pioneer resort island in the Maldives to have fully equipped Hyperbaric Chamber and dive clinic for treating decompression sicknesses. This facility is used by the patients from around the country and resort islands.

We have successfully concluded one of the best Hotel Halloweens ever! Bandos Islands Resort & Spa, also best known for its facilities and amenities to host families apart from its popularity among honeymooner and divers.

With 419 guests including 37 children, our Halloween evening was a smashing success leaving guests and children in the house best of the Halloween memories.

The program that captivated our guests included, fun face painting from 1830hrs in the sand bar that was specially decorated for the evening with scary colors, faces and sounds.

The evening’s highlights include live rock music from Zero Degree Atoll with infamous Nashid captivating the audience with his guitar and the band in general.

Hotel staffs were not backing off from entertaining its guests. The staff surprised the guests with amazing presentations such as dancing with vampires, costume show and a thriller dance.
